Grid PEP type classifications
Grid employs a proprietary category classification for politically exposed persons, PEPs, in the PEP Connect premium dataset to allow for client filtering and risk scoring based on a PEP's position, country, and event parameters.
Categories of PEPs include the following:
HOS | Head of state Executive branch of a country. It covers the head of country and head of state government at the federal and provincial levels, respectively. |
CAB | Cabinet officials Cabinet ministers at national and state levels or officials with ministerial rank. It also covers the governor and deputy governor of the central bank of a country. |
INF | Senior officials overseeing key infrastructure sectors Related ministries: Housing, Home Affairs / Interior, Telecommunications such as Phones, Internet and Mobile; Transport, such as Highways, Trains, and Airports; Public Works, such as Water, Sewage, and Electrical; Economic Development, Information and Technology, Industry, Land &; Irrigation Department, such as Public Security Police, Investigation Agency or CBI; Defense; Department of Capital Construction, Department of Urban Development and Architecture, Department of Internal Affairs and Communications, Department of Agro-Industrial Development, Department of Housing and Energy Conservation. This includes senior officials of the Infrastructure Departments or Agencies that operate under a specific ministry of the country. |
NIO | Senior officials overseeing non-infrastructure sectors |
MUN | Municipal level officials Mayor, deputy mayor, and councilor at a city or municipal level of a country. For the MUN PEP type, we capture only the principal cities (having 0.5% country's population) of the country. |
REG | Regional officials Includes governors of the state government. Additionally, it also includes regional officials (district level) of the country. |
LEG | Senior legislative branch Legislative branch of a country. It covers the speaker, deputy speaker, and members of the legislative assembly at the national and state levels. |
AMB | Ambassadors and top diplomatic officials Includes official envoys, especially those who are high-ranking diplomats who represent a state/country and are usually accredited to another sovereign state or to an international organization as the resident representatives of their own government or are appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment. |
MIL | Senior military figures Senior officials of the armed forces, such as those in the Army, Navy, and Air Force of a country. |
JUD | Senior judicial figures Senior officials of the judiciary branch of a government existing in a country. |
POL | Political party figures Senior officials of a major political party holding more than 10% of the national assembly seats in the specific country with a tenure within the last 10 years. |

GCO | Top executives or functionaries in state-controlled business A Government Controlled Organization, GCO, or State Owned Enterprise, SOE, is a legal entity created by the government, with majority shareholding, to undertake commercial activities on the government's behalf. GCO or SOEs are based on the following 2 factors:
Includes senior management and members of the board of directors (BOD) of a government-owned enterprise. Furthermore, depending on the organization's hierarchy, in case of an absence of BODs, the head and deputy head of the supervisory board are considered. |
IGO | International Government Organization An organization composed primarily of sovereign states, referred to as member states, or of other intergovernmental organizations. Intergovernmental organizations are an important aspect of public international law. IGOs are established by a treaty that acts as a charter creating the group. Includes senior officials of international government organizations. It is composed of representatives appointed by state governments that have agreed to become members of the organization. The designation includes chairman, president, executive board, and members of international parliamentary and judicial assemblies and central body committees. |
