Organization entity name matching in Grid
The screening process for entity names classified as Organizations goes through a different reading process than the cultural identification and parsing processes for person names.
Organization entity name matching logic
Unlike the Person name matching logic, which generates potential spelling variations and performs parsing that is appropriate for personal names, the Organization logic matches whole words within strings.
For all inquiry searches on names identified as an Organization, the Grid name matching engine:
Evaluates word order. If there is a potential match of an organization name, but the name's word order is different from that presented in the inquiry, the match is returned with results. However, that result is assigned a lower similarity score.
Determines scoring. If only two words of a three-word organization name string are exact matches, the score drops even lower.
Disregards suffixes. When all elements of the organization's name are submitted, the system disregards common words and suffixes such as "the", "LLC", "Inc", "Corp", and so on.
Examines words. Words, not characters, are examined to match within inquiry strings. For example, when you search for "Moby's House of Whales", search results also include results for " Whales House".
Considers scripts. Name inquiries in a non-Latin script require an exact name match within the profile.
While both person and organization names can be recorded in different scripts, transliterations, orders, and abbreviations or variants, person names can be rooted in and defined by cultural traditions.
Those screening considerations are less applicable to organizations. Multi-national corporations typically have unique names across jurisdictions that do not reflect a direct translation.
