Partial BIC ID search in ID Lookup
Partial ID search matching is only available for ID TYPE = searches.
As defined by SWIFT, the BIC is the standard format for identifying banking and financial institutions. A SWIFT/BIC code consists of eight to 11 alphanumeric characters and follows the following format:
Characters in positions 1 through 4 represent the business code.
Characters in positions 5 and 6 represent the country code for the business identified in positions 1 through 4.
Characters in positions 7 and 8 represent the location code for the business' main office.
Characters in positions 9 through 11, which are optional, represent the business' branch code.
ID Lookup search logic for partial BIC IDs
Partial ID BIC logic is based on the BIC ID format and screens off of the first four, six, eight, or 11 characters. Each character set must be complete and exact to return a match.
Other formatting rules to consider when submitting a partial ID value for BIC:
Minimum length: first four characters
Maximum length: 11 total characters
Exact match results are returned for the following character sets:
First four characters: Business code
First six characters: Business + country codes.
First eight characters: Business + country + location codes.
All 11 characters: Business + country + location + branch codes.
Eight characters + XXX: Business + country + location + main office codes.
If 12 characters are submitted, ID Lookup assumes the ID is a SWIFTNet FIN address and the first 11 characters are screened as BIC. Then, the full ID is also screened for an exact match.
If a partial character set is submitted, such as the first seven characters, no results are returned, even if the first six characters are an exact match.
