Grid gender and unisex name filtering

Grid supports filtering for two separate data points related to sex and gender.

  • Sex filtering - This is based on the client-provided sex attribute. This attribute can be provided via either the API or FTP integration. This filter compares the client-provided sex attribute with the Grid profile’s sex attribute, if available from the data source.

  • Gender filtering - This is based on the gender probability for the given name and is based solely on the name. The filter uses the probability of a gender match between the inquiry name and the Grid profile’s name and filters out matches where the probability of a match is beneath a given configurable threshold.

Raw gender probabilities are computed based solely on the given name and include separate percentages for each culture.

Note

There is no clinical distinction being made here between gender and sex. The two terms are used to draw a logical distinction in software functionality.

Unisex name filtering

Unisex names are unlikely to be filtered out based on gender.

If your firm subscribes to Moody's Analyst Review services, contextual research is used by Grid analysts to rule out false positives based on gender.
