Configuring Refinitiv World-Check One

Refinitiv World-Check One is a data provider you can use to run these checks:

  • PEPs and sanctions screening for individuals

  • Sanctions and adverse media screening for companies

PEPs and sanctions screening for individuals

How it works

This is the default behavior for a variant of the PEPs and sanctions screening check with Refinitiv World-Check One as the data provider.

The check is performed by screening an individual’s name through Refinitiv World-Check One’s sources to provide a list of the individual’s potential matches to sanctions and politically exposed persons (PEPs).

If no potential matches are found for the individual (and the individual doesn't have potential matches returned from earlier screening checks), the check is marked Completed.

If any potential matches are found, the check returns Unresolved events and the matches are displayed in the check results. By default, all matches are displayed in the Potential matches list.

For every match that’s discovered, a detailed portfolio is displayed. This portfolio provides all available information from Refinitiv World-Check One about the match’s biography, associates, political exposure, events, and sources.

This check variant is supported for all countries.

A maximum of 200 potential matches can be processed. If there are more than 200 potential matches, they will not be displayed in Passfort. Please refine your search or view the matches through your data provider's portal. To reduce false positives, provide the individual’s date of birth and nationality where possible. Adverse media results are not currently supported for Refinitiv World-Check One.

Configuration options

You have the following configuration options:

  • Enable ongoing monitoring: When this option is selected, any time a new match is discovered by Refinitiv World-Check One, the check’s task is marked incomplete, and, if the profile’s application is approved, it’s put into review. When this option is deselected, new matches are only returned from Refinitiv World-Check One when a user runs the check manually or, if your policy specifies, when a new task version is added to the application. Learn more about monitored applications.

When ongoing monitoring is enabled, any new matches are updated and displayed in Passfort Passfort once per day. Note that if it's not possible to get the latest information from Refinitiv World-Check One, Passfort will retry the following day.

  • Ignore historical matches: When this option is selected, Passfort removes any matches that Refinitiv World-Check Onepreviously listed as politically exposed or sanctioned but are not on any current lists.

  • Use Refinitiv World-Check One custom watchlists for screening: When this option is enabled, the individual is screened through any custom lists you've added to Refinitiv World-Check One, and any potential matches are displayed as refer matches. When you view a match from a client watchlist, the only information displayed is in the Sources, which names the list that was used and a message that says, "The entities detailed here are from the the end users organisations own ‘Internal Watchlist’." Note that if a match is also discovered on one of Refinitiv World-Check One's lists, it will be displayed as a separate match.

  • Exclude any matches the provider has marked as a false positive: When this option is selected, Passfort does not display any matches that Refinitiv World-Check One has marked as a false positive. To see these matches, log into your Refinitiv World-Check One account.

  • Consider only results greater than or equal to this match strength: This required option determines how matches are scored by Refinitiv World-Check One's matching engine. The value for the option must be one of the following: Medium, Strong, or Exact. Passfort dismisses every match with a lower score than the value you choose. For example, if you select Strong, then all Weak and Medium matches will be dismissed; if you select Weak, all matches will be considered. To learn more about the matching engine score, speak to your Refinitiv World-Check One account manager.

  • Name settings for false positive reduction: This is one of three required options contributing to Passfort’s false positive reduction service. It determines how Passfort treats results returned by Refinitiv World-Check One when a result’s name does not match the name on the profile. The value for the option must be one of the following: Allow any matches , Allow close or exact matches or Allow exact matches.

  • Date of birth settings for false positive reduction: This is one of three options contributing to Passfort’s false positive reduction service. It determines how Passfort treats results returned by Refinitiv World-Check One when a result’s date of birth does not match the profile’s date of birth. The value for the option must be one of the following: Allow any matches , Allow close or exact matches or Allow exact matches.

If the profile doesn’t have a date of birth, because the field was left blank, the date of birth is not used as a factor in identifying false positives.

  • Country settings for Passfortfalse positive reduction: This is one of three required options contributing to Passfort’s false positive reduction service. It determines how Passfort treats results returned by Refinitiv World-Check One when a result’s country of nationality does not match the profile’s country of nationality. The value for the option must be one of the following: Allow any matches , Allow close or exact matches or Allow exact matches.

If the profile doesn’t have a country of nationality, for example, the field was left blank, country of nationality is not used as a factor in identifying false positives. To turn off Passfort’s false positive reduction service, set the Name settings for false positive reduction, Date of birth settings for false positive reduction, and Country settings for false positive reduction options to Allow any matches.

Importing screening results from Refinitiv World-Check One

When you add Refinitiv World-Check One to your account, you have two options:

  1. Start fresh and run new PEPs and sanctions screening checks on all your profiles.

  2. Import your existing Refinitiv World-Check One screening results into Passfort. Any new matches after the migration are flagged as part of ongoing monitoring.

If you choose to run new PEPs and sanctions screening checks on your profiles, you're charged for every check that's run. If you import your screening results, you're only charged for the checks that are run as part of ongoing monitoring.

If you choose the second option, any existing screening results are displayed on the profile's Ignored matches list with a message next to them that says, "Match ignored as part of import of historic profiles into Passfort platform."

Sanctions and adverse media screening for companies

How it works

This is the default behavior for a variant of the Sanctions and adverse media screening check check with Refinitiv World-Check One as the data provider.

The check is performed by screening a company’s name through Refinitiv World-Check One’s sources to provide a list of the company’s potential sanctions matches and (if you have access to Refinitiv World-Check One’s PEPs results) PEPs matches.

Individuals who are company associates, for example shareholders and officers, are not screened as part of this check. To screen individuals automatically, create an associate smart policy for the task with a screening check for individuals. Learn how company associates are approved/rejected using associate smart policies.

To learn more about how PEPs matches for companies are determined, see Refinitiv World-Check One’s reference guide.

If no potential matches are found for the company, the check is marked Completed.

If any potential matches are found, and the company doesn't have potential matches returned from earlier screening checks, the check returns Unresolved events and the matches are displayed in the check results. By default, all matches are displayed in the Potential matches list.

For every match that’s discovered, a detailed portfolio is displayed. This portfolio provides all available information from Refinitiv World-Check One about the match’s biography, associates, political exposure, events, and sources.

This check is supported for all countries.

Any false positives filtered out by Refinitiv World-Check One aren’t displayed at all in Passfort. Contact Refinitiv World-Check One for more information about how they determine false positives and where you can see them.

A maximum of 200 potential matches can be processed. If there are more than 200 potential matches, they will not be displayed in Passfort. Refine your search or view the matches through your data provider's portal.

Note

Adverse media results are not currently supported for Refinitiv World-Check One.
